Topics listed on linked document above are recommendations, and parents are free to alter them as needed, and adjust for their children’s ages and abilities. Each week a delivery Skill is also highlighted. The entire class will do impromptu speeches on the first and last weeks of each semester. When preparing at home, focus on the practicing of skills as well as the content. Frequent practice equips students to present with skill and confidence!
Each student will have up to three minutes to give their presentation. Some students may only take one minute. This is ok. As the year moves on we will help them become more confident and able to deliver more information. We are not timing them but we will need to monitor time just a bit because we do have a schedule. During this time, the audience will practice listening skills.
In the last part, the tutor will take a few minutes to teach the presentation skill for the next week. As time allows, students may be given a chance to briefly practice the new skill. When possible, we can practice with the history and science sentences from the tour guide.
If you are helping out in another class and would like to see your child’s presentation, please send a phone or camera with video capability with your child. Your child may ask an adult or other student to videotape their presentation.
